BRAN CASTLE

Bran Fortress or Dracula Castle

Bran Castle is a national monument and landmark in Romania. It is closely linked with Dracula legend – as known today – which resulted from a combination of some real historical and legendary events, related to the reign of the Wallachian voivode Vlad III, nicknamed as Ţepes (Vlad the Impaler) or Draculea (“drac” = the Romanian for devil) in the mentions of some chroniclers of those times. His popularity amplified in the upcoming centuries by the association with the character of "Dracula", a novel published in England in 1897, written by the Irish writer Bram Stocker.

The castle is now a museum open to tourists, displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie.
