GHIKA CASTLE - Dofteana village, Bacau county

   The castle of was built in the romantic style, as a hunting residence, in a very special picturesque area, at the end of the century. XIX Founded by Nicolae Ghika, governor of the National Bank of Romania, member of the boyar family that gave the country ten rulers. Its owners had to flee the country at the end of the Second World War.
   Between the years 1941-1944, the Command of the German Army of the Wehrmacht was established here. When retreating, the German soldiers took the most valuable art objects from the castle with them. The Russians came, they also took what was left valuable, after which in 1949 the entire domain was nationalized, becoming the property of the state. Then, the palace was a TB hospital, a children's home and a children's rheumatology sanatorium. 
   Repairs, investments and conservation work have been carried out in recent years. The palace park (3,8 ha) is also endowed with a lake of 1.800  square meters. Over time, the alleys were rehabilitated, the access roads were redone, benches were placed, ornamental shrubs and flowers were planted. Currently, the palace is in private ownership. The old "hulubărie" within the park was transformed into the "Dofteana Park" Guesthouse, which evokes the atmosphere of the last centuries. The decor is rustic, and there are six accessible rooms with utilities, which can be made available to tourists. 
   The movie "Miss Christina" based on Mircea Eliade was filmed at the "Ghika" palace in Dofteana, and in the summer of 2016, in the same location, for almost a month, the movie "The Wanderers" was filmed (,,The Spirit Hunter") – feature film directed by Dragoș Buliga. Cast: Armand Assante, Răzvan Vasilescu, Claudiu Bleonț, Daniel Plier, Oana Marcu, Alexandra Apetrei, but also other actors from Romania, South Korea, Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
